Seeing Earth as Only NASA Can
NASA's first image of Earth was taken by Explorer 6 in 1959. It was a grainy, black-and-white photo captured from 17,000 miles above the planet's surface and depicted little more than a sliver of cloud cover over the Pacific Ocean. Nearly 70 years later, NASA's vantage point of Earth has advanced dramatically — forever changing the way we see our home planet. As we continue reaching for the stars, training a careful eye on Earth keeps things in perspective.
