Greenland Ice Mass Balance
This cut away of the Greenland ice sheet shows the high altitude accumulation region and the low altitude ablation (melt) zones. In a warming climate, both melting around the margins and precipitation in the interior increase, causing the ice sheet to grow in the middle and shrink at the edges.
This animation illustrates a cutaway of the high altitude accumulation zones and low altitude melt zones.
