Gravity waves from Hunga Tonga Eruption
Gravity waves caused by the Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha′apai volcanic eruption can be seen in Geostationary satellite data by taking the difference between subsequent images. Global images are acquired every 10 minutes by the GOES and Himawari weather satellite imagers. Calculating the difference between two subsequent images reveals circular gravity waves spreading out from the eruption center.
