Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM) Orbital Fleet
GPM will be an international fleet of satellites that provide global observations of rain and snow. Based on the Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM), GPM will consist of a core spacecraft that includes radar and radiometers that will provide reference standards to unify the other observations made by the rest of the fleet. More information on GPMis available.
This visualization is the first of three designed to illustrate some aspects of the GPM mission. This one shows the GPM spacecraft fleet orbiting the Earth. This version is capable of being shown on a hyperwall that is a set of tiled displays.
The center 3x3 hyperwall tiles from the GPM fleet assembled and reduced to play on laptops and desktops
Fully assembeled 5x3 hyperwall show of GPM fleet (includes all tiles)
The large animation above is diced-up into smaller tiles that can be played on the hyperwall. Each tile is named according to a standard spreadsheet convention with a1 at the upper left and e3 at the lower right. This image illustrates this naming convention used in the diced-up frame sets below. For 3x3 hyperwalls, the convention is a1 to c3.
