On April 20, 2010, the oil rig Deepwater Horizon exploded, triggering an oil spill into the Gulf of Mexico. NASA's satellite instrument MODIS, on board the Terra and Aqua satellites, has captured images of the oil spill. in this MODIS timelapse, images have been selected that show the spill most clearly.
