Dr. Jeff Halverson, GRIP Project Scientist “GRIP is designed to take the latest technologies that NASA can bring to bear. Satellites, aircraft that fly in the storm, aircraft that fly over the storm, systems in the ground…let’s put it all out there for six weeks and see what we can learn about the physics of these storms.” Dr. Ramesh Kakar, Weather Focus Area Lead “GRIP is an original NASA experiment. We expect that these measurements will enable hurricane modelers to improve their track and intensity forecast.” Dr. Scott Braun, Research Meterologist “NASA is providing two aircraft, the DC-8 aircraft and unmanned Global Hawk aircraft for use in the field. It’s also providing a suite of advanced remote sensing instruments to measure processes within storms and the hurricane environment. Many of these instruments have been funded and developed at NASA.”
