The James Webb Space Telescope has officially completed its time at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, MD. Over the past 21 years, hundreds of people developed, assembled, and tested the telescope. In 2017, the telescope passed major tests to help it get ready for space. One major extreme cold optical test remains, which requires a test chamber bigger than any at Goddard. Enter Chamber A, NASA's largest cryogenic vacuum chamber, located at Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX. Webb recently made the trip from NASA Goddard to Johnson. It is called the Space Telescope Transporter for Air Road and Sea, or STTARS. STTARS is so tall that some streetlights and power cables had to be lifted. Inside Chamber A, the telescope will spend about 100 days in a freezer that mimics the temperatures in space. Light will pass through the telescope to recheck all its optics and ensure they are correctly aligned.
