Miles Hatfield: “Today, it continues to drive photosynthesis, light our way and keep us warm.

I'm Miles Hatfield, and in this episode, we're talking about living with a star.

We've been putting together this video series called “High Above Down Under,” that's all about us following two rocket teams to Australia where they were going to be the first launches from a brand-new launch range.

And we talk about the science they were doing, but we also wanted to capture the experience of what is it like to be in the field.”

Mara Johnson-Groh: “So, Miles and I are both writers, which means this was kind of our first time really delving into the videography side of stuff, which was a challenging and very rewarding learning curve.”

Miles Hatfield: “One of the cool things about sounding rockets is that, you know, they launch up and do their science up in space and then they fall back down. And so, you have to go recover the parts.

So, you’re going to see a little bit of us going out to do some of the recovery.

Looks pretty expired to me.

We wanted to have a lot of fun and we wanted that to come across in the video.

Ahh! There's some life biting me right now.

Why are you smiling? Because you're about to fly!”

Mara Johnson-Groh: “We had a great time out in the field recording all this video.

Miles is out there getting bitten by ants while we’re recording, and there's spiders everywhere.”

Miles Hatfield: “That's just a terror.”

Mara Johnson-Groh: “That’s huge!”

Mara Johnson-Groh: “But we're also getting to talk with and hang out with all these amazing people, from the engineers to the scientists to the people who helped make the rocket range and all the local rangers who know all about the flora and fauna and all the local history as well.

It was a lot of fun filming this series and we hope you guys will enjoy it, too.”
