Mars Landing Sites
The visualization shows the landing sites of all six NASA spacecraft to reach Mars—Viking 1, Viking 2, Pathfinder, Spirit, Opportunity, Phoenix—and the target location where Curiosity will touch down on August 6, 2012.
Data collected by NASA's Mars Global Surveyor spacecraft was used to create the topography and surface color details seen here.
The landing site of Viking 1, Viking 2, Pathfinder, Spirit, Opportunity, Phoenix—and the target location of Curiosity—is marked on this rotating globe of Mars.
This is a title safe version of the visualization made for broadcast television.
