  • Released Friday, March 18, 2016

High school students participating in the United States Senate Youth Program (USSYP) visited NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center on March 8, 2016. The 54-year old program brings 104 of the most outstanding high school students -- two from every state, the District of Columbia and the Department of Defense Education Activity -- to Washington, D.C. for an intensive week-long study of the federal government and the people who lead it. During their day-long visit to NASA, students heard from Center Director Chris Scolese and former astronaut Piers Sellers who is Division Director for Earth Sciences at Goddard. The students also toured the center and had the opportunity to learn more about the Satellite Servicing Capabilities Office as well as see the James Webb Space Telescope which is being assembled in the cleanroom.
