Long Island Size Iceberg Slows Shipping Lanes
The iceberg B-15A has slowed shipping lanes to McMurdo Station. In the summertime sea ice usually gets flushed out to sea, however this large iceberg has been blocking the sea ice from doing so. The size of this iceberg is 1,200 square miles, roughly the same size of Long Island, NY, which is 1, 377 square miles.
