Hinode's High-Resolution View of the Sun
A new sunspot collided with an existing sunspot which built up a highly sheared magnetic configuration. This resulted in a solar flare on December 13, 2006.
This movie opens with a full solar disk view from SOHO/MDI and zooms into the high-spatial and temporal resolution view from the Hinode SOT G-band filter.

Now we see the same sunspots through the high-resolution optical camera on Hinode.
Here is a view of the flare in the optical band, a brighter 'thread' near the lower edge of the upper spot and a bright knot near the center of the lower spot.

The sunspot continues to evolve.
