Modeled vs Observed Severe Storms

Simulated maximum updraft helicity from the Goddard Earth Observing System (GEOS) model represents model-derived rotating severe storms capable of producing strong winds, hail and tornadoes. Overlaid on these frames are National Weather Service radar-derived severe thunderstorm warnings (yellow polygons), tornado warnings (red polygons), observed hail (green dots), tornado reports (red triangles). This animation covers week two of the 2024 Hazardous Weather Testbed Spring Forecast Experiment.
